US Tennis Champion Madison Keys Visits Harpeth Hall

Keys to Keynote Play Like a Girl Honors Gala in Franklin

Harpeth Hall students were thrilled to welcome US Tennis Star, Madison Keys, to campus today. Keys achieved a career-high ranking of No. 7 in the world in October 2016, and has been consistently ranked inside the top 25 by the Women's Tennis Association since early 2015.

Keys is in Nashville to deliver the keynote speech at the Play Like a Girl Honors Gala tonight in Franklin, Tennessee. Play Like a Girl is a national non-profit organization that works to ensure that every girl reaches her full potential by providing girls ages 9-13 an opportunity to participate in sports and physical activities. According to their website, they "believe that girls given the opportunity to play on a team become women who have confidence to stand on their own."

Keys wanted to visit a school while in town and came to Harpeth Hall for lunch and a tennis clinic that was arranged by the US Tennis Association (USTA). She ate with the Harpeth Hall tennis team and answered the girls' many questions ranging from her career path to her tennis strategy, and her involvement with organizations that empower young women.

Lunch was followed by a tennis clinic in Harpeth Hall's Green Gym. Students from the Middle School and the Upper School got to play with Madison and USTA instructors.

Channel 2 was on campus to capture the action and interviewed several students. Video from the 4 p.m. news is available here.

Everyone at Harpeth Hall was so pleased that Madison Keys visited our school and let the girls interact with her in such a meaningful way!
