The 2019 year marks the fifth anniversary of our Athletic and Wellness Center. Thanks to the Patton Family and many generous donors to The Next Step Campaign, the Athletic and Wellness Center opened in January 2014 upon the completion of the competition size Green Gymnasium, the Patty Litton Chadwell Fitness Center, new locker rooms, athletic and wellness staff offices, two wellness studios, and an Athletic Hall of Fame display. With the completion of the Gray Gymnasium and four tennis courts, Harpeth Hall celebrated with a community open house in June 2014.
The Athletic and Wellness Center was designed and built to meet the fitness and wellness needs for each and every girl at Harpeth Hall. It also answered the urgent need for a more modern alternative to Bullard Gymnasium, built in 1953, and Morrison Gymnasium, built in 1977. The solution was a comprehensive facility housing larger gymnasiums, providing more wellness and strength and conditioning opportunities for our girls, and increasing playing spaces for our expanding middle school athletic program.
The impact of the Athletic and Wellness Center on the lives of our students in these first five years has been tremendous. Harpeth Hall holds 580 events in the center each year; we field 62 teams in 11 different middle school sports and 13 different upper school sports; and 91% of middle school students and 65% of upper school students participate in an after-school sport.
This brief video provides a glimpse into the many ways that the Athletic and Wellness Center enhances the quality of life and educational experience for every girl at Harpeth Hall.
