Winterim Q&A with Anna '24

What are you doing during Winterim?
During Winterim this year, I have had the opportunity to learn more about four interests of mine that are all completely unique! I am taking Cultivating Your Personal Brand, Medical School 101, The Art of Journaling: Finding Your Hidden Magic, and Tao and Tai Chi. Cultivating your personal brand has allowed me to reflect on my values and understand how influencers create their persona. I have really enjoyed Medical School 101, which has allowed me to learn more about the material learned in medical school, and it has given me a better understanding of the day-to-day life of healthcare professionals. The Art of Journaling: Finding Your Hidden Magic has been a great outlet for me to discover and test journaling methods such as bullet, gratitude, and longform journaling. Lastly, in Tao and Tai Chi I have learned more about Chinese culture, Daoism, and I have learned Tai Chi movements!

What is your favorite part about the Winterim program at Harpeth Hall?
Winterim has been an amazing experience for me, especially coming off of a first semester of high school amidst the pandemic. I have loved the change in pace from normal academics to exploring hobbies and topics that are tailored to individual preference even more so than the normal experience at school. It is a unique way for us as students to have an opportunity built into our school year to try new things and learn from new experiences. I think having this time during Winterim will allow me to be more successful in my second semester and come out with a broader and more diverse education.

What is your favorite Winterim class?
Medical School 101 has definitely been my favorite class of Winterim this year. I feel like I have gained perspective of the medical field, learning about the wide variety of professions through classroom presentations and zooms with guest speakers ranging from a registered nurse to a physiatrist. And, I have worked hands on with the content that we have studied by dissecting a sheep heart and a pig kidney. I also have really enjoyed my two teachers, who I do not normally have during the year, but have had the opportunity to because of this Winterim class!

What advice would you give to a new student at Harpeth Hall?
Come into Harpeth Hall with a very open mind, because you may be surprised at what classes, clubs, or other activities that you find interesting and engaging. There are so many opportunities that open up for you. I would encourage any student to explore and pursue the extracurricular programs because you are bound to find activities that will enhance your experience of Harpeth Hall and deepen your connection to the community.
