Proposal for the Harpeth Hall Endowment Public Equities Portfolio to become ESG Invested by 2026

by Neva B. Class of 2021

My project focused on extensive research of ESG investment and other forays into sustainable finance (fossil fuel divestment, Impact Investing, Social Impact Bonds, etc.) I researched sustainable finance and collected data on Harpeth Hall’s current portfolio holdings, as well as alternatives with more competitive ESG. I communicated with Presidents and Provosts of universities who have divested from fossil fuels to question them on the impact of their divestment, ultimately deciding upon ESG investment as my recommendation for Harpeth Hall. Throughout my time working on my project with Harpeth Hall’s endowment, I listened to over 90 podcast episodes related to ESG investing. I completed the LinkedIn Learning courses “Developing Investment Acumen” and “Understanding Capital Markets”. I received a Certificate from edX on Introduction to Investments. I pored over Excel spreadsheets. I spent well over 250 hours working on my project. I am now working on a newspaper article about the importance of ESG that I hope to publish soon.
