Diversity, Equity & Inclusion on Broadway

by Julia R. Class of 2022

The world is connecting through the arts, so how does Broadway express ethnic and global issues?

by Julia R. Class of 2022

Theater is historically dominated by the upper white class. Broadway tailors to that image despite trying to make a change. Although great progress has been made over the past 20 years, there is still more that could be done. My solution for the cultural controversies that Broadway faces is to have a pamphlet that can be added into Playbills or any theater program. The pamphlet will state the background of the character as well as the director's and actor's understanding of the culture so that the audience members can fully understand the role and its cultural background.
