Life with Schizophrenia: Writing and Performing a Theatrical Monologue
Elizabeth Read

Larkin Wilson '26

I researched schizophrenia, a mental disorder that causes people to interpret reality abnormally. During my research, I focused on its causes, diagnosis, most common symptoms, and various forms of treatment. Through an interview with a specialist on schizophrenia, I collected more detailed information about the procedure doctors follow to diagnose schizophrenia and the symptoms that a person with this diagnosis would experience. Then, I used my interest in theater to write a theatrical monologue about the life of a young girl with schizophrenia. With support from Ms. Lauren Elens Bromfield, I made edits to my script and recorded the monologue. By completing my SEEK project, I developed a deeper understanding of schizophrenia and script writing.
