My goal was to simplify the complex topic of brain tumors in a way that young people, and people of all ages can understand. To do this, I studied the basics of brain tumors, like the grading, causation, symptoms, and some common types of tumors. As part of my research, I met with and interviewed Harpeth Hall Alumna Dr. Lola Chambless, Professor of Neurological Surgery and Radiation Oncology at Vanderbilt who answered many of my questions about brain tumors. After exploring options for a product, I decided to create an animation, so I also researched how to animate. I used my research to create a storyboard, wrote a script, and used Canva to turn my ideas into a 4 min video made up of 92 slides. My completed animation describes brain tumors, showcases the process of a tumor growing, and gives a breakdown of the different tumor grades. It includes audio, text, and images that break down the information in a way that it is easier for young people to understand. Although the SEEK process was challenging, I extended my knowledge of brain tumors and the many traits of that make all of them incredibly different. I also learned about myself, how I work best and my persistence.
