I learned about the physics and the design process behind roller coasters. During the project, I researched the different types of forces and energy that are present in roller coasters, the components that most coasters are made up of, and how they are designed and built. For my final product, I drafted my own roller coaster and created a digital model of it in an online program called Planet Coaster. My goal was to create a roller coaster that was fun, but not too intense and that followed the laws of physics. In addition, I took measurements and calculated different types of energy in my coaster, which I documented in a spreadsheet.
