For my SEEK Project I researched the effect of housing on global warming. I started by deeply researching the effects, causes, and solutions of climate change. I then narrowed my focus toward researching housing and how different aspects of a home could be altered to more positively impact the environment. For my final product, I designed a model of a home that would be incredibly energy efficient and eco-friendly. Along with the model, I created an interactive business pitch that describes all aspects of the house, including alternate energy forms, more efficient appliances, and eco-friendly building materials, along with how much each part would cost and how much they would save. I found that most parts of the house cost more upfront, but homeowners could receive money back from savings over the years. Thanks to the help of Ms. K in the design den, I used Sketchup to create a digital model of my home, which I then 3D printed. Through this experience, I learned the impact humans have on the environment, and the different ways our lives could be altered for the benefit of the environment as well as ourselves and our futures.
