Educating Middle School Students About Dark Energy and Dark Matter
Elizabeth Read

Cora Meyer '27

I created a middle school science unit plan for teachers who teach astronomy. Specifically, I researched dark energy and dark matter, which are little-known, major parts of astrophysics. I also learned about Hubble’s Law and the Hubble constant. I then used the Understanding by Design process to create a unit plan and a detailed lesson plan with a slideshow, worksheets, and step-by-step guides for the teacher and students. I was excited to make a product that would teach other kids my age about “mostly unknown information.” During SEEK, I learned that there are so many fascinating facts about the universe that students deserve to know.
