Codes and Crumbs: A Digital Dango
Elizabeth Read

Isla Hartmann '28

For my SEEK project I coded a game that teaches the player about different desserts around Asia. I researched different coding languages and the origins of code in order to create the game. For the theme, I researched three different recipes from countries in Asia and cultural events tied to them. The recipes were Dango from Japan, Mooncakes from China, and Durian Rice from Thailand. In my game, the player can bake Japanese Dango and learn about the facts and origin of the recipe. To achieve this, I drew every detail of the kitchen background, as well as every raw ingredient and animation. I used JavaScript to code the game so players can follow the recipe to combine ingredients and make the dessert. Through the creation of my product, I greatly increased my knowledge of JavaScript coding and Asian desserts and holidays. I came to appreciate the importance of being organized, as well as the value of setting a schedule and deadlines to complete a long-term project with many components.
