Hortense Bigelow Ingram Upper School

The Harpeth Hall School celebrated the dedication of the Hortense Bigelow Ingram Upper School on January 23, 2007. With more than 35,000-square-feet of renovated space, the Hortense Bigelow Ingram Upper School will provide the academic facilities needed to support the rigorous college preparatory program of today and tomorrow.

The Ingram family through the Ingram Charitable Fund gave the lead gift to Harpeth Hall for the Upper School renovation project. This generous gift made it possible for Harpeth Hall to raise the additional funds necessary to complete this vital $7.5 million project.

The Upper School is named in memory of Hortense Bigelow Ingram, a Harpeth Hall founding trustee who served on the Board of Trustees for 21 years. Harpeth Hall is honored to recognize Hortense Ingram’s leadership role and her family’s continued support and involvement in Harpeth Hall.

“With the renovation of the Upper School, Harpeth Hall is even better equipped to advance our educational mission and to provide the best education for girls,” said Harpeth Hall Head of School Ann Teaff.

The Hortense Bigelow Ingram Upper School includes the Jack C. Massey Center for Mathematics and Science, the George N. Bullard Gymnasium, the Ella Petway and George N. Bullard Student Services Hall, which is home to the offices for Winterim, College Counseling, Service-Learning, and Upper School administrators, and the Louise Bullard Wallace Center for the Humanities, which houses the English, Foreign Languages and Social Sciences classrooms.

The Hortense Bigelow Ingram Upper School was designed by Street Dixon Rick Architecture, PLC. The general contractor was The Parent Company. Landscape architect, Tara Crenshaw Armistead ’75, designed the landscaping for the building.
